Welcome to our website! This is the place to find out about the Youth Birding program of the Baltimore Bird Club, a chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society. Here you will discover who we are, what we do and when and where we do it. This is for birders of any level of skill, but especially beginners, between the ages of 8 and 15 years old. All trips require an adult accompanying the youth birder, but otherwise we have few rules. Look over the website, and if you have questions, please feel free to ask. We hold birdwalks on the second Saturday of each month, September to May, to some of the most interesting places in the Baltimore area. The locations are different each month, in order to visit as many different habitats as possible, and see as many different kinds of birds as possible. The walks start at 8 am from September to November and in May – during the winter and early spring, they start at 9 am. Walks generally last for about two hours, but may run shorter or longer depending upon the weather and the wishes of the participants. As a general rule, I will show up even if the weather is somewhat inclement, and if you’re not sure whether to come out, simply call me up to an hour before the scheduled start time to check with me. Some of the best walks have been on days which looked bad. Note that the tabs above the photograph can be clicked on to show each page. Check them all out from time to time to see if new information is available! Please note – I have a variety of posts on the ‘Posts’ page, covering several topics. If you wish to filter the posts for a specific category (sparrow identification tips, for instance), please look to the right side of the screen and find a menu labeled Categories. Click on the little ‘down arrow’ at the right, and choose from the various options that open up.
