FIELD TRIP. Baltimore. First Wednesdays at Ft. McHenry. Our monthly visit to assist Jim Peters in the National Aquarium's project of surveying bird activity around a 10-acre man-made (mitigated) wetland. Folding chair and telescope useful. FIELD TRIP. Allegany. Garrett County Ponds. Roy Brown will again lead us to the frozen tundra of Garrett County to see what if anything has survived the winter. If Garrett County is still encased in ice, we'll mosey on down to Allegany County (aka. "Little Florida"). Hopefully we can have a picnic lunch at New Germany State Park. Meet at Parkside in LaVale at 9 a.m.

FIELD TRIP. Howard. Vesper Sparrow Search. Very difficult walking though wet areas and fields in search of sparrows. Horned Lark and Pipit likely. Possible shorebirds and dabbling ducks. Flowers expected include Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Purple Trillium, and Trout Lily; the birdlist might include Blue-headed Vireo, Yellow-throated Warbler and Louisiana Waterthrush. FIELD TRIP. Baltimore. Chimney Swifts In Hampton. See migrating Chimney Swifts at dusk as they pour into chimneys at the Bookbindery and/or the Mill Center. FIELD TRIP. Howard. Birds of Spring at Mt. Pleasant. Easy walking through the fields and wood edges of the farm. Mown grass and wood chip paths. Wildflowers and butterflies should be abundant. FIELD TRIP. Talbot. Chino Farms, Queen Anne's County in collaboration with Tri-County, Caroline, and Kent Chapters. At more than 6,000 acres, Chino Farms is one of MD's largest contiguous farmlands. The property provides an incredible diversity of habitats with species that range from Bald Eagles to Yellow-throated Vireos and Prairie Warblers. It is the location of the Native Grassland Restoration project; we are very likely to see Grasshopper Sparrows on territory. In addition to birding, the day will feature field presentations on the grassland project and pink lady's slipper research by University of Maryland Professor Douglas A. Gill, and on the MD Greenprint Program by Mr. Bill Jenkins, DNR. Learn for yourself how the working landscape contributes to bird biodiversity on Delmarva.
